The brief
The owners wanted a home that brought two loves together: the colour and heritage of Peranakan design, and the calm, natural warmth of Japandi. The challenge was letting both shine without either one taking over.
We built the home around a handful of materials with real character. Hand-patterned Peranakan tiles greet you at the door and return as a border in the living room, a terracotta backsplash gives the kitchen a sunset glow, and natural timber and rattan keep everything warm and grounded.
The details
Heritage underfoot
Peranakan-patterned tiles mark the entrance and wrap the living room as a skirting border, a nod to Singapore’s shophouse tradition.
A terracotta glow
Glossy terracotta tiles, lit from beneath the upper cabinets, turn a compact kitchen into the warmest corner of the home.
Natural textures
Rattan pendants, honey-toned timber and a sliding barn door keep the palette soft, tactile and lived-in.
